Breed Specific Adoptable Dogs

Below is a list of some of the breed specific rescue organizations that serve Connecticut where you can adopt a dog of your preference.  Keep in mind that you must fill out an application and get pre-approved before you will be able to adopt from these organizations which typically includes a phone interview and a home visit.  Some organizations even request that they speak to your vet/proposed vet.  Adoption fees from these organizations range from $250 to $800 depending on the type and age of the dog.

GOLDEN RETRIEVERS:

Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue

Due to the high demand of dogs these days, SGRR has been taking in more mixed breeds than purebred Goldens, so if you are only interested in adopting a purebred Golden Retriever, SGRR is probably not the rescue group for you. Additionally, because their dogs are in high demand, 90% of our adoptions are direct adoptions from the south.  If you feel you must meet a dog prior to adopting, then again, SGRR is probably not the right group for you.

Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue

In the past few years, the number of purebred Golden Retrievers in rescues has declined by almost 70%. Because of this, YGRR has begun taking in a variety dogs, including Labrador Retrievers and other mixed breeds. While they still take in and rehome Golden Retrievers, the likelihood of being matched with one is significantly lower than it has been in the past.
